The new bridge of the highway M8, currently under development in Hungary, is the largest of its kind in the world. Because of its size it was particularly important to investigate the wind forces acting on the bridge. The installation environment and the shape of the bridge determine the sensitivity of the construction to wind forces.
The aim of the project was to map the force and torque acting on the bridge for the case of typical extreme wind loads, and the case of typical periodical wind structure oscillations. CFD results were confirmed using wind tunnel experiments.
