Flow Around the Budapest Sportarena

On buildings with an extremely large outer surface, like the new Budapest Sportsarena, the force resulting from wind pressure is a crucial design parameter influencing the stiffness of the construction. Evaluation of the wind pressure is also important regarding the wind comfort of the surroundings of a building.  The wind comfort will influence the positioning of various outside objects such as benches or a coffee-bar.

Thus, the aim of our project was to determine the flow conditions around the considered building.   CFD results were confirmed using wind tunnel experiments including the "sand erosion" method for investigation of flow through.
