Additional considerations must be made when designing a ventilation system for a large manufacturing plant. In most cases, large factory halls have a high heat load due to the heavy machinery being operated. In addition to the comfort of employees, it is usually necessary to take into consideration the specific ventilation requirements of the process, for example strict temperature or air velocity requirements for a specific manufacturing technology.
In the investigated industrial hall, 3 MW of heat is produced due to the specific technology applied. The allowable air velocity surrounding the machines is strictly limited because a high velocity will negatively influence the quality of the products. In order to design of an adequate ventilation system, we created a 3D numerical simulation to examine the air flow profile from different system configurations.
