Two-phase Flow Model in the Steam Generator of a Power Plant

Because of the planned prolongation of the life cycle of the Hungarian Nuclear Power Plant the improvement of the blow-down system was decided. Our colleagues modelled the two-phase flow in the shell side of the tube bank of the steam generator, which has a critical role in the replacement of the contaminants. The circulation is influenced by several factors which has been explored by micro-models:

  • 1D coupled thermo-hydraulic model of the pipes to explore unevenness of heating
  • 2D cross sectional model to define the resistance of the pipes
  • 3D model to define the anisotropic shell-side resistance of the tube bank

Find more information about the model on our Download page.

A mathematical model was developed to specify the local value of slip velocity of water vapour relative to the liquid phase, while the pre-heating and vapour generation was simulated with the mixture model of ANSYS FLUENT, sources defined by UDFs (user defined functions).
