The installation of an ultrasonic type flow measurement device after an electrostatic filter in the Pecs Power Plant required a rigorous design procedure. Due to the complex geometry, the flow includes strong secondary flow structures causing inhomogeneous gas and dust flow in the stream-wise and transversal cross sections of the channel.
It was necessary that the data for the volumetric flow and emission control systems were representative; therefore, the measured data of velocity and dust concentration must equal the average of the considered flow cross section.
During the investigation, we examined the phase flow of the hot exhaust gas and dust particles between the outlet of the electro filter and the inlet of the suction ventilator. This work allowed us to propose the device position capable of supplying representative values.
